About Seedling

Seedling is an independent resource for parents of kids born between 2025 and 2028. We explain the federal Section 530A program — the "Trump Account" — in plain English, and we help you actually file IRS Form 4547 so your child gets the $1,000 government deposit they're entitled to.

Why We Built This

We're parents. When the Section 530A program was passed in 2025, we kept hearing the same question from friends and family: "Should I sign up for this Trump Account thing?" The answer is almost always yes — but the process is unfamiliar, the IRS form is intimidating if you've never filed one outside of a 1040, and the cost of doing nothing is invisible until years of compounding have already slipped by.

Existing explainers were either written for tax professionals or padded with SEO fluff. None of them walked a parent through the actual Form 4547 without charging a fee or pushing a paid product. So we built Seedling: a free learning hub, a guided form filler that prints the correct IRS mailing address for your state, and a calculator that uses realistic 7% return assumptions instead of the 10% figures you'll see elsewhere.

What Seedling Does

  • Learning Hub — plain-English articles on eligibility, filing, fund selection, and what happens at age 18.
  • Form 4547 Filler — a guided wizard that validates common filing errors and prints a PDF with the right IRS mailing address for your state.
  • Growth Calculator — realistic projections of what the $1,000 deposit plus your contributions becomes by age 18.
  • Blog — program updates, deadline reminders, and strategy deep-dives as the program evolves.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't open your account. The account opens at Robinhood when the IRS processes your Form 4547. Seedling helps with the filing; the Treasury and Robinhood handle custody.
  • We don't give tax advice. Our content is general educational information. For complicated situations (pending adoption, custody disputes, ambiguous citizenship), consult a CPA or tax attorney.
  • We don't charge. The learning hub, form filler, and calculator are free. The 530A program itself is free. If a service is charging you to file Form 4547, that's a red flag.

Independence & Affiliations

Seedling is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered withthe U.S. Treasury Department, the IRS, Robinhood Financial LLC, or BNY Mellon Corporation. We're a small team building a tool we wish had existed when we filed for our own kids. Seedling is not a registered investment advisor and does not manage any money directly.

Our Principles

  • Honest numbers.Every growth projection uses a 7% average annual return (roughly the long-run S&P 500 return after inflation) and carries a not-a-guarantee disclaimer. No 10%-forever hype.
  • Plain English. Tax code is dense; our job is to make it understandable without losing accuracy. If a sentence is confusing, we rewrite it.
  • No urgency theater. The 530A has an 18-year filing window. We won't scare you into action — we'll just show you the actual cost of waiting.
  • Link to the source. When rules are changing, we cite the primary source (IRS guidance, Treasury announcements) rather than speculating.
